This lush trail meanders through wooded hillsides, oversees the golf course, and includes two creek crossings. We often see Wapiti or elk, mule deer and black bears and always flowers galore. Look down the Waterton valley or out onto the prairies.
“Where the prairies meet the mountains”
Riding over prairies nestled at the edge of mountains, we might catch a glimpse of elk, bear, deer, badgers or coyotes. We’ve no trail to follow, but you’ll feel like you’re back in the old west if the buffalo are grazing near the paddock fence when we arrive!
This is our most popular trail and is the first lake open for the season. As we ride though pine and aspen forests and bear grass, we come to the sheltered and quaint Crandell Lake, then continue around Crandell mountain back to the stables.
If you want the most spectacular view for the shortest time in the saddle, the lion’s head is the ride for you. We’ll climb way up Vimy mountain to a stone outcrop that has the profile of a lion. Carrying on past the Lion’s head, we’ll go to the top of Vimy and see the lower Waterton Lakes extending out onto the golden prairies.
* if the river crossing is “saddle blanket deep”, we’re on our way, usually after mid-July when the spring runoff slows down
Many consider this our most spectacular ride! This full day adventure takes us above Cameron Falls, into Alderson Lake, past waterfalls and Carthew Lakes. Then climbing the summit ridge, we’ll see miles and miles of mountain splendor. Our trip ends at Cameron Lake where we’ll drive you back to the stables.
(May, June and September)
Travel past a cascading waterfall or continue to climb to crystal blue sub-alpine lake. On the way, catch views down Waterton Lake.
This loop trail follows the National Park Boundary, then cuts back into virtually untouched backcountry. There’ll be nary a soul in sight. The basin is nestled amongst the mountains, with a fresh water spring meeting the trail.
Several 8 and 10 hour rides leading to high mountain lakes. We can make the wonderful loop ride to Twin Lakes or trek over the Tamarack Trail which is especially beautiful in the fall with the changing colors. We ride over high ridges, across shale trails and rugged switch backs. Truly awesome rides!
Spend the night under the starry skies. For small parties, enjoy great food and outstanding scenery.
* depends on permit availability.
We have several other rides to suit the most adventurous spirit! We can accommodate you, whatever your needs, just let us know what you have in mind.
